Forms: fraoch-Goill, freach-ghallaibh, fraech-, fraechrend

n o, m. a word belonging to poetic style and in later lit. meaning rage, fury, fierceness ; but its association with gen. of 1 ferg `wrath' and other words suggests that the orig. sense may have been different (perhaps a fig. use of 1 fráech (c)). Cf. ba liach f.¤ fola ar in mbrat sin, Ériu xi 50w ( H 3.17, c. 670 ) = f.¤ f. forsan leann, O'Curry 2238 ( Eg. 88 f. 17c ). f.¤ for feraib isin debaid, LL 182b21 ( Arch.
