n o,n., m. n p. fotha, fuith (cf. fudha, v.l. fugha IGT, Decl. § 180 ?), Thurn. held : atait secht fod la Feine, Laws v 264 , to be a misreading of ... secht fodla la F., but the comm. gl. a secht no fothaigedh' suggests foth.

A word of doubtful meaning, freq. in legal tracts; expld. by O'Don. ` claim, right, title, property'; `title, claim', Plummer ; by Thurneysen ZCP xiii 301 - 303 as that which can represent or be substituted for something else owing to similarity of nature or behaviour ; he assigns to it the a p. futhu in Cambrai Hom. 37b (see futhu and cf. O'Bruadair cited s.v. foich). a thing which someone else has a claim on, which has been promised to someone else, or is forfeit to someone else ( Ériu lvi 78n ); token, sign (?).
